A British man in his 60s has admitted drugging and raping his wife over a 20-year period in what police described as a “horrific” campaign of sexual abuse.
The man from Stockport, whose identity has been withheld to protect his wife’s anonymity, pleaded guilty to a further 45 charges, bringing the total number of charges he has admitted to 60.
Greater Manchester Police said the case involved 13 other men who have been charged in connection with the alleged abuse of the woman. Nine of them face charges relating to rape and sexual assault, while another man has already pleaded guilty to conspiring to rape and drug the woman.
The husband has admitted charges including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration, administering a substance with intent and sharing intimate images or videos.
Police said the investigation remains complex and that specialist support is being provided to the woman.
The case has drawn comparisons with that of Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot, whose former husband was convicted in 2024 of drugging her and arranging for other men to rape her.
The Stockport man is yet to be sentenced, with prosecutors saying his fate may not be decided until proceedings involving the other accused men are concluded.
