‘Apollo’ eye infection spreads in Bauchi, assembly speaker affected

A highly contagious eye infection commonly known as “Apollo” has spread across Bauchi State, with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, among those affected.

Suleiman disclosed this in a post on his Facebook handle on Sunday, saying he woke up with the infection and urging residents to take precautions to prevent further spread.

He said, “By God’s grace, I woke up today with a highly contagious eye infection commonly known as ‘Apollo,’ which is currently spreading across Bauchi State.”

The Speaker, who expressed concern over the spread of the infection, urged residents to remain vigilant and maintain proper hygiene.

He said, “I urge everyone to be vigilant, maintain good hygiene, and take appropriate preventive measures to help stop the further spread of the infection within the community.”

He advised residents to observe proper hygiene and avoid sharing personal items that could facilitate the transmission of the infection. Apollo, also known as conjunctivitis, is a contagious eye infection that can spread through contact with infected persons or contaminated surfaces and personal items
