Following the news, Basarakiya faced backlash from X users who accused her of failing Aisha.
One user Ummulkhaira, wrote: ārinkitay_ spent over a week posting that she was not okay. She wrote about wanting to end it, and still, nobody noticed. This is a wake-up call. Checking on your mutuals is not optional. A comment under the post. Send DM, a simple āare you okay?ā Most people who are that low leave the signs before they go. We just have to be willing to see them. May Allah forgive her shortcomings and be gentle with her.”
In response to the criticisms, Basarakiya announced she would be stepping away from the platform to grieve her friend in peace.
āIāll be deactivating my account for a while. I canāt keep exposing myself to some peopleās vile and hurtful tweets when Iām already carrying a pain I can barely put into words. I lost my sweet girl, and a part of me went with her. Iām grieving her, missing her, and trying to learn how to exist in a world without her in it,ā she wrote.
āIām at the edge of snapping, and I know thatās not what my girl needs from me. Right now, I need to step away from all the noise, protect my heart, and give myself the space to grieve her the way she deserves. May your soul rest in perfect peace, you will never be forgotten.ā
