The Africa Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat has briefed the Nigerian Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation and Vice-President of AMCOW for West Africa, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on preparations for the 2026 Africa Water and Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium.
The symposium is scheduled for 17–21 August in Kigali, Rwanda, a statement by the secretariat said.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing Africa’s water and sanitation agenda, highlighting the importance of Nigeria’s participation, peer learning, leadership, investment readiness, and the development of Africa’s common position ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi.
Prof. Utsev also reiterated Nigeria’s support for AMCOW as host country of its Secretariat and its efforts to implement the Africa Water Vision 2063.
AMCOW Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Nelson Gomonda, commended Nigeria’s leadership in West Africa and expressed confidence in continued collaboration towards achieving universal access to safe water, meeting growing water demands, promoting responsible use of aquatic resources, and strengthening transboundary water cooperation and institutional accountability across Africa.
