The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as “misleading and alarmist” a recent report claiming the scheme has a “ransom clause” in its operations.In a statement, NYSC Management said the claim is “entirely fictitious” and urged the public to disregard it.

The scheme noted that it has a life insurance coverage for all Corps Members through Capital Express Assurance Limited since 2004, and has spent over ₦500 million on medical interventions for members in the past five years.

The statement also clarified that a recent abduction incident involved an individual who is not a serving Corps Member, having completed his service in 2023.

NYSC said it works closely with security agencies to ensure Corps Members’ safety and has relocated some orientation camps to safer locations.The scheme urged the public to verify information before sharing and publishing, saying fake news undermines national institutions and erodes trust.
