The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has ordered the deployment of 4000 personnel across the FCT to enforce law and order as well as ensure a peaceful celebration of the Eid el-kabir (Eid al- Adha).
The deployment is sequel to the need to ensure security of lives and property of residents as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT and its environs before, during and after the salah.
“The deployment of officers and men cuts across specialized departments and units of the Corps like Arms squad, Female Strike Force, crack squad and Agro Rangers,” a statement by the FCT Command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi said.
“In order to forestall surprises from criminals and bandit who may want to plant IEDs to disrupt the celebration, Odumosu has already deployed undercover men of Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive (CBRNE) massively to ensure they sweep the territory for IEDs during the celebration.
“There is also adequate deployment to volatile areas and soft targets such as Mosques, Eid Prayer grounds, Shopping Malls, Recreational Centres, Markets, Motor Parks, Amusement Parks and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.”
Black spots are not left out like uncompleted buildings that harbour criminals. This is to avert security breaches.
The FCT Boss, urged FCT residents to be vigilant, report any suspicious movement by individual or groups to any security agency close to them, avoid commuting in commercial vehicles with tinted glasses, without any form of proper identification, especially stop and pick vehicles by the road side to avoid being victims of one chance or kidnappers.
The Commandant who charged the residents to celebrate responsibly, assured them of a safe celebration, promising that the Corps is poised as usual to secure the metropolis and its environs before, during and after the salah celebrations.
He warned criminals and vandals to keep off National Assets and Infrastructure adding that NSCDC covert officers and patrol teams are all over the city and will not withhold the heavy arm of the law from any offender.
