TAAG Angola Airlines has announced its entry to Abidjan, the Côte d’Ivoire capital, reinforcing its commitment to expanding its destination network and promoting regional connectivity.
The move, marks the airline’s first commercial passenger flight to the country on the new Luanda-Abidjan route and will feature a regular service with three weekly frequencies on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a statement by the company said on Monday.
“Flights will be primarily operated with the Airbus A220-300, with a 137-passenger total capacity, offering high standards of efficiency, comfort, and performance, well-suited for regional operations in Africa,” the airline said.
To celebrate this milestone, a symbolic ceremony was held at Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan, bringing together authorities from Angola and the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, as well as civil aviation stakeholders from both countries.
“This new service is part of TAAG’s expansion strategy, focused on strengthening its presence in key African markets and consolidating Angola and particularly the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ) as a reference hub for regional connections and for linking Africa to other continents,” the airline said.
“The connection between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire has been structured under a multipoint connectivity model, enabling TAAG to capture passenger traffic in Abidjan while facilitating onward connections to the airline’s network across Africa, South America, and Europe via AIAAN.”
In addition to passenger transport, the new route also plays a significant role in the air cargo segment, contributing to the development of trade flows between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire. This operation therefore enhances the potential for economic synergies between the two countries.
