NSCDC seeks intelligence support to curb power infrastructure vandalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has urged stakeholders in the power sector to provide timely intelligence to tackle the growing threat of vandalism of electricity installations.

The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, made the appeal when he received members of the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria at his office in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi said.

Odumosu said the command had recently paraded several suspects arrested for vandalising power installations across the territory, stressing that sustained collaboration with stakeholders was crucial to curbing the menace.

He disclosed that NSCDC personnel were maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of critical national assets and infrastructure but noted that public cooperation remained essential to identifying and apprehending perpetrators.

“Vandals are trying to circumvent the law, but we are not resting on our oars. My men are on 24-hour surveillance of critical national assets and infrastructure. We need your support through timely information to root out these criminals from the capital city,” he said.

The commandant urged the association to work closely with the Corps by providing credible information to protect electricity infrastructure within their areas of operation.

He also congratulated the association’s newly elected executives and encouraged them to promote unity and inclusive leadership.

Odumosu dedicated an award of excellence presented to him by the association to his management team, acknowledging their contributions to the command’s achievements.

Earlier, the association’s Chairman, Ibrahim Abdullahi, praised the commandant’s leadership, describing his performance as remarkable and deserving of recognition.

Abdullahi said the award was based on Odumosu’s track record and commitment to service.
