Civil Defence arrests 14 suspected vandals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) FCT Command, said it has arrested 14 suspected vandals in Capital city.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson DSC Monica Ojobi said the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Tactical Squad of the command nabbed the suspects during the Salah patrols and surveillance operation at different locations across Abuja.

Two of the suspects, Samson Anyide, male, 30 years old from Osogbo locaql government and Suleiman Ibrahim, male, 27 years old from Ungogo LGA of Kano State, were arrested along Utako – Jabi Road vandalising crash barriers, the statement said. Exhibits recovered from them are crash barrier poles.

One Abubakar Isija, 22 years, who hails from Katsina State was also arrested at Zone 3, Abuja digging out armoured cables from the ground.

Shaibu Yusuf, 22 years old, from Funtua, Katsina State, was arrested at GSM village Zone 1, Abuja, also digging up Armoured cables.

“The four suspects have been handed over to the intelligence and investigation unit of the Command for further investigation and possible prosecution if found culpable,” DSC Ojobi Said.

Other suspects include Amina Cecilia, Female, 35 years old, from Wuna village, Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT; Ibrahim Aisha, female 40 years old from Dukpa village, Gwagwalada; Shuaibu Zainab, female, 50 years old, from Wuna village Gwagwalada; Magaji Tijani, male, 17 years old from Garko village, Karko LGA, Kano state and Wambe Faith, female, 14 years old, from Ekwa village, Gwagwalada, Area Council.

Also arrested were some minors including Sule Maridia, female, 17 years old, from Gwagwalada; Terga Wisdom, male, 15 years old from Tarka village , Tarka LGA, Benue State, Ibrahim Hauwa, female, 12 years old, from Dukpa village, Gwagwalada, Yakubu Rashidat, female, 18 years old from Wuna village, Gwagwalada Area Council and Umar Seriki Gambo, male, 24 years old from Dukpa village Gwagwalada Area Council.

These suspects were arrested in connection with illegal mining around Gwagwalada Area Council.

Speaking on the arrest, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, expressed disappointment at the “devilish and unpatriotic acts perpetrated by these people who are so unrepentant despite all security agencies are doing to sanitize the metropolis.”

He said: “Since these criminals have sworn not to desist from crime, we too are ready to go all out for them. They thought they could use the Salah festivity period to vandalise critical assets of our nation but one thing they forgot was the fact that NSCDC has no holiday; my men patrol the city and its environs 24/7 and the results are inspiring.”
